CSA makes connecting to local artists and buying art easy and affordable. Community Supported Agriculture has become a popular way for consumers to buy seasonal food directly from neighboring farms. Community Supported Art is a similar endeavor, with the same buy-local spirit in mind, to support local art, artists and art supporters. Our jury, comprised of local artists and arts professionals selected each of the nine artists. Participating jurors were: Mira Burack, visual artist and assistant director of the Kresge Arts in Detroit program; Lynn Crawford, published author and art critic; Vievee Francis, published poet and associate editor for Callaloo Journal; and Joel Peterson, multi-instrumentalist, composer and music programmer. The 9 artists receive a stipend of $1,000 to produce 50 “shares.” Shares cost $350.
